Παγκόσμιο σοκ έχει προκαλέσει η είδηση ότι Ινδοί θυσίασαν ένα 10χρονο κορίτσι για να «θεραπεύσουν» τον θείο της που είχε σοβαρή αναπηρία. Το άψυχο σώμα του παιδιού εντοπίστηκε σε μια μαύρη σακούλα σκουπιδιών, μαζί με υπολείμματα τελετής μαύρης μαγείας.

Το περιστατικό σημειώθηκε στην πόλη Μαγκάντι, με τον κόσμο να διαμαρτύρεται στους δρόμους κατά των παραδόσεων και προλήψεων που οδηγούν συχνά στην θανάτωση ανθρώπων, κυρίως κοριτσιών. Υπενθυμίζουμε ότι πριν από λίγους μήνες έγινε γνωστό ότι ένα ζευγάρι πλούσιων Ινδών άφησαν την κόρη τους να πεθάνει από την πείνα, μετά από εντολή γκουρού, για να βγάλει περισσότερα κέρδη η επιχείρησή τους.

Η αντιμετώπιση του γυναικείου φύλου στην Ινδία απασχολεί κατά καιρούς τα τοπικά και ξένα μέσα ενημέρωσης, με τους βιασμούς, τα φαινόμενα ενδοοικογενειακής βίας και τους εξαναγκαστικούς γάμους ανήλικων κοριτσιών να αποτελούν συχνά φαινόμενα. Οι γυναίκες είναι ανεπιθύμητες σε αρκετές επαρχιακές περιοχές, ενώ μόλις σήμερα, Δευτέρα, ανακαλύφθηκαν 19 θηλυκά έμβρυα δίπλα από ένα Νοσοκομείο της χώρας.

Όσον αφορά την θυσία της 10χρονης, αίσθηση προκαλεί το γεγονός ότι φαίνεται να θανατώθηκε από συγγενείς της. Ήδη έχουν συλληφθεί τέσσερις άνθρωποι, ανάμεσά τους και ο αδελφός του πατέρα της. Ο τελευταίος είχε μείνει παράλυτος μετά από εγκεφαλικό επεισόδιο και ένας μάγος του χωριού του πρότεινε να θυσιάσει ένα ανήλικο κορίτσι μέσα σε 40 ημέρες. Χωρίς δεύτερη σκέψη, συγγενείς της μικρής την απήγαγαν και την σκότωσαν για χάρη του ηλικιωμένου άνδρα.
