Ποδηλάτης «έπιασε» ταχύτητα 280 χλμ/ ώρα, αφού απελευθερώθηκε από το πίσω μέρος ενός Porsche Cayenne στον διάδρομο ενός αεροδρομίου.

Όπως αναφέρεται σε δημοσίευμα του BBC, o 45χρονος Νιλ Κάμπελ έσπασε το προηγούμενο ρεκόρ των 268 χλμ/ ώρα χρησιμοποιώντας ένα ειδικά κατασκευασμένο ποδήλατο κόστους περίπου 16.400 ευρώ.

Τον αρχιτέκτονα από το Έσεξ ρυμούλκησε στο αεροδρόμιο Έλβινγκτον ένα Porsche Cayenne και μετά αφέθηκε για να περάσει από την ειδική πύλη χρονομέτρησης με τις δικές του δυνάμεις. Σημειώνεται πως το προηγούμενο ρεκόρ είχε επιτευχθεί από έναν Ολλανδό το 1995.

We did it. Just back from Elvington and this is the first chance we’ve had to reflect on our achievement, a new world record. Records are difficult to break because they push the limits of human endeavour, team work and technology. We were certainly on the limit with all of these. Add in awful weather during Friday’s test day and we genuinely thought the target of 170mph would be beyond our reach. By 10am on Saturday we incredibly managed to change our circumstances and the virtual aerodynamic modelling we had applied and the new pace car from Porsche gave us the chance to break the record held previously for 24 years. We are all happy and overwhelming relieved to now be at this stage - 174.339mph. A New Men’s World Record. The next goal is to go over 200mph. Ο Κάμπελ δήλωσε ευτυχής και ανακουφισμένος που πέτυχε το εν λόγω ρεκόρ, τονίζοντας πως η ομάδα λειτούργησε «εντυπωσιακά καλά».

Η ακριβής ταχύτητα που έπιασε ο Κάμπελ ήταν 174,33 μίλια (280 χλμ) ανά ώρα. Τα στοιχεία σχετικά με το ρεκόρ του Σαββάτου θα υποβληθούν στο Guinness World Records.

Η επόμενη πρόκληση για τον Κάμπελ θα είναι να πιάσει τα 220 μίλια (254 χλμ)/ ώρα του χρόνου σε διαδρομή στη Γιούτα των ΗΠΑ.
