Δυο μέρες μετά την απονομή των Χρυσών Σφαιρών που σηματοδότησε την έναρξη της περιόδου των βραβείων για το 2018, ακολούθησε η ανακοίνωση των υποψηφιοτήτων των Βραβείων Βρετανικής Ακαδημίας Κινηματογράφου (BAFTA).
Το πρωί της Τρίτης οι ηθοποιοί Natalie Dormer και Letitia Wright ανακοίνωσαν τις υποψηφιότητες για τα φετινά βραβεία BAFTA, σε ζωντανή μετάδοση από το θέατρο Princess Anne στο Λονδίνο.
Η ταινία του σκηνοθέτη Guillermo del Toro «The Shape of Water» συγκέντρωσε 12 υποψηφιότητες ενώ οι «Darkest Hour» και «Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri» ακολουθούν με εννέα υποψηφιότητες η καθεμία. Όσον αφορά τις υποψηφιότητες για τις ερμηνείες ηθοποιών, οι Gary Oldman, Kristin Scott Thomas, Daniel Kaluuya και Sally Hawkins βρίσκονται ανάμεσα στα ονόματα που διεκδικούν βραβείο. Επιπλέον, την τελετή, που θα πραγματοποιηθεί στις 18 Φεβρουαρίου, φέτος και για πρώτη φορά θα παρουσιάσει η ηθοποιός Joanna Lumley.
